i like the idea of an starter contest buy or claim them and run as you want to and get as many wins as you can before the tag runs out the most wins in such a space of time is the winner example
make it a 6 months contest you have to get a horse with say 5000 tag thats everybody and see who gets the most winners is teh winner
what you think mark

Claim any horse over a 2 week period, and then race it in any type of race you want. You get more points for winning / placing in an allowance or stake they for starter or claimer. After 20 week, the top 3 point earners get credits.
Can do the same type of thing with auction horses, but then stables with more money may be at an advantage.

Both of those ideas sound good, I would be happy with either and it will give us a break from the 2yo contests. The other thing I wouldnt mind seeing is maybe a little more concentration on the trainers contest, perhaps even divisions of stables since we are getting so many and maybe a break down of points for types of wins ie- graded and stakes worth more than claimers. (To tell you the truth I am not even sure how the current trainers comp is scored so this might even be the case.)
I guess the drawback with divisions and that type of comp would be the extra work involved and trying to keep track of wins but if you need a hand with things Lucky I am willing to help out.
The other idea I liked was Bigmike's where we set up 2 divisions and the trainers go head to head in each division and the the top 2 in each go through to the semi's. Not sure on the exact format but maybe we could lay out a 8 week schedule (depending on how many in each division so we face eachother once) with a different race type each week. Week 1 - allowance Week 2 - claimer Week 3 - starter Week 4 - stakes and so on. You just nominate one or two horses for the week and the scoring would be pretty similar to the current comp but instead of builiding up points from week to week you just compare with the person you went up against for the week and get either a win or a loss.
Just an idea but would need some work. I would like to hear if anyone else has some other ideas.

I think the Res -vs- Res would be fun but do we have enough high quality horses to do that?
The others sounds good as well. Should we start with a claimer contest first and go from there? Run the claimer contest for 15 weeks and start another contest with either another residency or something between ourselves?

i think it would be better if we ran a contest of maybe three trials within each res then pitt the best horses from each trials againt the other trial winners from other res to find out the best horse of each res.

Yeah, I'm not sure if we have enough quality horses here to compete, unless we challenge a smaller res like Great Plains (I'm sure there are a few others). The other thing we could do Res vs. Res is limit it to a 2YO comp, that would help put us on more even ground. But the claimer 1st sounds good either way.

I think the claimer contest is a good start. I would love to do a rez challenge, definitly with one of the smaller residencies. If we kick off with the claimer comp it will give us time to see what we have and who might be a good matchup with us.
The only thing to keep in mind with a rez challenge is the World Cup meet and Breeders Bowl week. All my graded runners are heading in that direction so we would just need to plan around those weeks.
If we do go with a rez challenge we dont need to have 20 different type of races. Maybe just a few common distances that we are likely to have plenty of horses for and 2yos.
I suppose we could start a thread as well and just see what top horses are here at Ohio. It would be interesting.
