My Ohio based giveadarn stable has two 2yr olds with potential, or so it seems after Saturday's races. I ran 34 new 2yr olds over two sponsored races this week. Eleven of them look rather poor in their first run (under 50 speed) which "usually" is not a good sign. However two from giveadarn ran very well in their first outing... even with the high odds they were given. War Whirled (a filly) was coming on strong to take 2nd in race 3497.0416 and World Harvest (a colt) won in race 3497.0314. I think Redeem (grimmie stable - another Ohio based stable) in race 3497.0416 will do well and may be special (as the breeding indicates) when stretched out and perhaps with a change of surface. Very nice....I would love to breed about 30 2 year olds this year but I just can't do it....I try to only breed bluebloods for breeding stock down the road.
Is that what a lot of people do, buy races so they can get their 2 year olds in?

Thanks guys... only time will tell... Bill... several folks I know buy a race to get in that first run for their early 2yr olds... Mike (Twinhollow) and I have been doing it now for a couple of years... sometimes we split the cost and run both our horses in one race. It's not so much to see which horse/horses look better as it is to just get them that first run. It can be frustrating week after week of not making fields. Larry

Yeah I usually try to have at least 2 or 3 2YO in a some stables this time of year, and then bid a race for them (50 credits). If I do that in 5 or 6 stables it costs me about 300 credits to get those 12 - 14 horses their first start. No winners yet but a couple that look promising, including a colt that ran 2nd at .97 in 77 SPF.
