All I can say is: YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (esp. for my MARTY AND ROME, Gold Medal Winner of the Amber Waves Of Grain, at 9 furlongs for 3yo fillies!) Hafta share the full story of where this champion filly's name come from, since it's fitting (kind of) that she would win a big one on this Valentine's Day weekend. Well, it is fitting after I 'splain As I have mentioned in the past a few times, I am an avid listener of the Jim Rome Show, a sports-talk show with its own brand of smartass humor that gets its style from a combination of the host himself, the Clones (listeners who tend to appropriate a lot of the humor and vernacular of the host, then add to it), and the "smack talk" that a lot of athletes like to use. One of things the Clones like to do is bash other Clones, esp. if one of them comes off as corny and/or old-fashioned. They were afforded the perfect opportunity when a guy named Marty called the show one day. When Marty got the chance to talk on-air, he said something like: "I drive around on the job all day, and it gets lonely and boring... But, three hours a day, a friend of mine joins me through the radio and talks sports, makes me laugh, makes me think. He is smart and a really great guy. His name is Jim Rome. Thanks for being on the radio every day!" You can imagine what happened after this epic call... Emails and calls came through with such "clever" lines as, "Marty And Rome, sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g!" and "Jim, do you and Marty share milkshakes, one drink, two straws?" and "Jim, do you and Marty go to Halloween parties dressed as both ends of one horse?" You get the idea... This particular humor thread gets brought up again and again by the Clones, even though it's been several years since the Marty call. I just HAD to commemorate it with a Sim-horse name
