Since this is the first year of me being in the Sim, I haven't done any yet.....there are a lot of nice mares out there with some great bloodlines. I would love to right now, but the BP or credit cost is just way too much.

I will probably look at it for maybe one breeding in a day or 3 when maybe the frenzy dies down. I did only one last year and found a decent Grade B mare and the offspring turned into what is probably my best 3 yo.

I bred a couple last year. This year, I'm staying with just my own mares. I don't think the extra cost involved is worth it;in most cases breeding from scratch will not be much more once the added fees are included.

yea only time the fees are really worth it are if the mares were good racehorses, then ill take a chance with the extra bp's

I think I bred to one retired mare last year, one of my own. Earlier in the year, I bred to a handful of mares that had no active owners, but so far I haven't had great results. They could develop into something later, though, so I'm not giving up on them yet.
I don't think I'll join the frenzy right now, though. I'd rather save the bps and breed to one of my own mares after the first of the year.

I just spent about 500 Cr to make Exchange Rate x (Capote x Mr. P) The cost ended up about equal to a scratch breeding. There is no way I could do this using credits from scratch, so there was some advantage for me to do this and not use up BPs at all. Also, the mare may kick in something extra or maybe not. If you look at the leading horses in each division a very disproportionate number of those are retired mare offspring. There is something to it provided the mare has anything to add.
Epcotlen. I would say your 4 RMB last year are exceptional. 4 for 4 solid runners is hard to do. For me anyways.

Just bred 2 retired mares today. I couldnt believe the number of bluebloods still available for breeding. I look for mares around the D rating that have superior breeding and a couple of stakes wins. I have had a lot of success with horses that may not have been superstars on the track but have excellent breeding. Today I bred a Fantastic Light to a Theatrical x Gone West mare and a Tapit to a Seatle Slew x Mr Prospector mare.
Hopefully should jag a winner.
