Good to see you are still pumping out those 2yo's Mark. ;D
I havent been able to get any the last couple of weeks. I am sitting on my bp's in two of my stables cause I want to get Awesome Again to two retired Forty Niner mares I have. He is very hard to get this year but I will bide my time cause I really like the cross. Hopefully the credit breeding will open up at a reasonable time for the Aussies next week and I will get Pivotal who I have been waiting for a couple of weeks now.
Good luck with them

Alright you super breeders. I have had limited ecperience with breeding and any breed I have done has been dreadful. What i would like to ask is, what are your personal secrets on sire decisions? Dam Sires? What to look for in the decision making process? I have not bred an allowance winner yet and I have had only one horse (Aussie Bomb) break a 100 speed rating, who is 6yo now and lost a step, who I got off claims.
Surely there is some tricks to the trade. Surely it isn't just complete luck. This sim wroks against me as I cannot find/breed winners thus I don't get any BP's, thus I cannot breed the big name horses. Of my 36 horses I would have to say theat 30 of them run exclusively in the claiming circuit, most in the 5k and under circuit. Basically, what information are you using to make your breeding trio and where can you find it. I may purchase some credits to breed a really good horse or two and jump start my stables if I can do it with the knowledge that I am breeding a potential stakes runner.

Mike, In my opinion to be consistently succussful you have to use some credits. I have had great succuss using BP's but you just cant accumulate enough to breed the quality horses and it is hard to hold onto them long enough to get the better sires. These days I use my BP's to breed with my better retired mares as you have to wait for the mares to open during the week before you can breed with them, so it is nearly impossible to use credits. I breed most of my scratch bred horses and late in the week cheaper ones with credits. If I can give one bit of advice, and I am by no means an expert, it would be to concentrate on quality rather than quantity. If you stick to the top 20 or 30 sires with quality Dams you are certain to have some success. And the dam sire can not be underestimated, I think it is at least and possibly more important than the sire. Horses like Forty Niner, Gone West, Storm Cat, Danzig, Deputy Minister, A.P Indy and Kingmambo are absolute gold mines as dam sires and will throw runners to most sires. When my stables were at around your level years ago I concentrated on breeding a few very nice blue bloods and picking up well bred mares in claimers and at auction. This is a bit harder these days with the STC competition and alike but there are still good mares to be had with future breeding in mind. Some of the poorer performed horses that I mangaged to get included: Dela'thedealer, Forty Nine Storms and these 2 I picked up for next to nothing in the auction last week with a view to breed with- Bootlegger and Mean Greens. They are only moderated performed but all have solid breeding and potential to produce. The other great option is to use the available open mares in October. This isnt as good as it used to be with Mike closing the option to use any mare that hasnt been bred with but there are still heaps of very well bred mares that are open to everyone in October. These are some of the horses I have bred using open mares: Jumping Sal, Masper, The Boom, BookLink and Summer Fair. This is also a very cost effective way to bred as you only pay half for the DS and a quarter for the DDS and only the sire needs to be available for credits. This time of year is also a great opportunity to see what is working in the sim. I like to sit down and go through all the horses that make the classic races and jot down some sires and dam sires that I like. I never copy breedings as I think it rarely works but you will quiet often notice some consistent nicks that work with sires. Well that was all pretty long winded and like I said I dont claim to be an expert in the game and I certainly dont play at a level to compete with the big spending stables. But I really think that you should be getting a lot more success and winners out of the game than you are at the moment. Let me know if there is anything specific you would like to talk about and maybe we can swap some notes via email. Brendan ;D
